“In my lyrics I am able to become the main character. I want to tell a narrative portraying all the thoughts and emotions raving through my head”&nbsp;

	Your lyrics explore themes such as feminism and sexuality in a very honest and real light. What inspires you to write so openly about these things?

	I write about my own real life experiences, feelings, thoughts and emotions. My parents are actors and so I grew up being surrounded by performance, poetry and creative expression and was always encouraged to express this, so these topics come about very easily for me.

	Love the new EP Ex Talk. The, ‘Has Been’, video looks insane! What was the creative process like for you for the EP and video?

	Ex Talk came from feeling heartbroken, rejected, angry and it was my way of putting a big middle finger up to everyone who hurt me and embracing that, ‘I’m still here bitches!’. I made it with a small circle of friends who are producers, writers and musicians and so it was almost a source of therapy writing the songs and making the video in itself.

“My vunerability as a young, feminist and queer woman who suffers from up and down mental health and self esteem is important for me to communicate through my lyrics”

	Would you say that fashion and style is something you feel is important to your identity as Girli?

	Definetly! But i would say i am equally inspired by film, music videos, zines and comic books. Right now i am also loving being much more immersed and invloved in the visual aspect of Girli - with things like my artwork, music videos and my own personal image.

	Do you feel in a sense that GIRLI is almost an, ‘alter ego’,&nbsp; for you? If so, how did this develop and come about?

	Yes and no. I find it hard to separate sometimes because GIRLI is my wholelife, but its healthy to step out of my skin and just be Milly too. I have a song coming out called, “I don’t like myself”, which is all about the pressures of social media and the ways in which this affects me and the ways in which i view my body, and compare myself to other people. I think i summed up those feeling perfectly on my new song.

	On finding herself through rave culture︎
My creative background comes from my childhood. I was always the quiet one in the family so needed to express my feelings through something other than communication.
&nbsp;
Due to my experience and the manner in which i grew up in, I needed more for myself so went to study photography at the University of Westminster.

I felt like I turned up and had no idea of what my visual aesthetic was and there was a certain push to know who I am.I was introduced to the rave scene, and totally began to look all starry eyed at it. It was like I had found my place and community. I love how these spaces allow you to escape into an otherworldly vessel; killing assumptions of what identity is.

	“Raving has made me feel so empowered. It feels like i have a duty to defend this shared culture”.

My work is influenced a great deal by by photographers such as Dave Swindells. I examined his work for my dissertation on the evolution of rave photography, and fell in love with the long exposure proto-psychedelic atmospheres and swirls of colours. His experimentation led him to find something totally new that enabled him in that divine time to find and refine his artistry.

“I want to create a lot of intimate documentation of subcultures and examine the relationship between spirituality and solidarity. I want to communicate love, realism, freedom and moments”&nbsp;

	I want happiness first of all. I always looked to fill the void within myself, and although i’m not there yet, i know it will be shortly.
My dream is to tour with DJs around the world and document this! To have my prints on clothing and incorperate my love of both fashion and photography. Lastly, to photograph the biggest nightclubs and have this change the way in which nightlife photography is viewed in commercial backgrounds.

	“My narrative can be anything, but communicated in a very surreal and otherworldly way.&nbsp; I think with fashion photography it has to be extremely real or the opposite, if it’s in the middle, that’s when it creates unreal expectations”

Ellie Graham is a London based photographer currently studying BA Fashion Photography at the London College of Fashion.&nbsp;“I began my interest in fashion because my Mum also studied at LCF and worked at fashion magazines so its something i was brought up around. I thought at first i wanted to get into styling and took a short course, for the final project there was a shoot and the whole time i wanted to be the photographer! I also loved taking imagery and editing them for Instagram so i guess both of these turned me towards photography.
I don’t want there to be a big gap between creatives who work together, i want to connect with a team and share ideas, as well as get to know the people i’m working with on a real level. I think this creates a better working environment and more authentic outcomes as a result. I really enjoy this social aspect of my work!”

I find that my inspiration comes from illustration and conceptual art, I really like to explore the process of artistic licence, and just, ‘following the brush’. In the past I’ve also really enjoyed landscape painting, and I think the exploration of nature has given me more inspiration when creating lines, shapes and textures in my work.&nbsp;I hope that my future in the industry is a constant flow of learning and growing, I would love to keep developing my style and collaborating with more amazing industry professionals. One of my dreams is to use my skills in the wig and hair department within theatre or film.&nbsp;

There’s so many things I hope to achieve and I never want to limit myself in this sense.

	HOLLY MACLEOD&nbsp;

	Rapidly rising Scottish designer Holly Macleod’s designs have been featured on the likes of Drag race star Crystal Methyd, as well as musical powerhouses Steff London and Becky Hill.

Inspired by themes spanning surrealism, hyperfeminity and performance, Holly discusses how these themes have heavily impacted her creative practices, as well as her roots in Edinborough.
She has also collaborated with other FuzionEight creatives Ellie Graham and Amy McDiarmid.

	“My parents always dressed me up in over the top looks growing up. I was always in bright colours, animal prints and&nbsp; fabulous brimmed hats. It definitely made me see clothing as a fun aspect of life rather than a necessity!”&nbsp;

	You graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2018. How did Edinburgh influence your creative vision and design processes?
	I’ve always lived in Scotland, my family originated from the Isle of Harris. I really love folklore and superstition so I often dive into my own history for inspiration. Looking at past rituals, religion, etc... but I always put a funny twist on it! Such as this collection where the snake have false teeth. To juxtapose the sinister with something humorous, to keep everything light.

	“Fashion is absolutly for everyone and I hope to be inclusive of every size, shape and gender expression. We all deserve the chance to wear what we want and look fabulous wearing it!”You take great inspiration from club kids and drag performers — what is it that draws you most to them? And why?
I have always looked up club kids and drag performers, they are so authentically and unapologetically them and that’s something I think we all should aspire to! Not to mention they always look fantastic, I love the amount of detail and effort they put into every look, they consider every part of their outfit down to the last detail. It’s art.

	Drag Race’s Crystal Methyd can be seen in a lot of your designs, and she
always looks incredible! How did this creative collaboration between you both come about?
	Crystal Methyd started following my page in 2018, I guess it was internet fate? And I thought she was fabulous so I followed her back and since then we have just been supporting each other on Instagram as we move through our careers! I loved seeing her on Drag Race I completely fell in love with her, I mean who couldn’t, she’s the sweetest, sexiest most hilarious queen! I am a Crystal stan!

You say you aim to, “reject the stereotypical values of the fashion industry” and “dare the consumer to take back control of their wardrobes”. Can you expand more upon these ideas?

I just want everyone to view fashion as something fun and enjoyable, I think when I was growing up anyway I heard so much about how if you were a certain age or size you shouldn’t wear certain things and never to clash patterns/colours etc I know so many people who to this day are still scared of wearing colour/sequins/patterns because of this old way of thinking and I’m here to tell you, there’s really not many colours that don’t go together and I think if you wear something with confidence it’s going to look great! Fashion should be fun and we shouldn’t be scared of it.
Getting dressed is my favourite part of the day and I want to share it with everyone. Don’t be afraid to look over dressed, I think you should always look your best and anyone who says anything about it is just jealous!

	Finally, what does the future hold in store for you ?

	For now with my brand I’m just releasing designs as they come to me. After graduating I didn’t design anything new for a while as I had put a lot of pressure on myself to create a full collection and it was holding me back so I’m just making things as they come to me, it’s more organic and probably more exciting for my consumer as every so often I will have a new design/print to show! It also means everything I design I 100% love, it wasn’t just made to help bridge a gap in the collection. I want my customer to aspire to owning pieces and having the chance to save up for each piece so that purchases aren’t made in haste and are fully wanted! Hopefully will be a part of their wardrobe forever! Not fast throw away fashion!

I’ve actually been designing with a group of talented young designers for the new inclusive brand @studiohiii which is launching soon! I was so happy to be a part of that as it holds so many similar core values to my own work! I’m also currently working on a collaboration with my childhood friend @by.Eilish — I’m in the midst of creating a new print which will be used on a capsule collection of garments which will compliment her clay accessories! We haven’t decided on a name yet but the theme is bad bitches! Think flames and barbed wire but with a little bit of glam rock of course!

	“My ongoing fascination for the taboo and the provocative has been a lot of fun to explore through Bean Baby”

	Tell us a bit about your creative journey to finding Bean Baby.

	Bean Baby is now about four months old and was absolutely a ‘happy accident!’. It’s so far been a very organic process. It initially began with designing pieces for myself that I couldn’t find elsewhere so it felt like a natural extension of me.

There are lot of cheeky and provocative undertones in what I do — whether its the devil horns, or the balaclavas, both of which&nbsp; feel a bit subversive.

Where do you source your inspiration for Bean Baby pieces?

	Exploring my personality through the designs has been a lot of fun.&nbsp; I’m typically drawn to things that feel somewhat taboo, or provocative. It’s about injecting fun and playfulness into the everyday. These have endedup being recurring themes throughout my life and so have translated into my work too.

	Your designs have been worn by the likes of Slowthai and Beabadoobee. How does it feel to see such influential individuals wear your designs?

	It’s really nice to see and i enjoy the recognition from creative people. Slowthai reached out when i’d just started Bean Baby, which was nice reassurance for someone like myself who has relentless imposter syndrome. Honestly, i’m equally gassed when anyone purchases one of my pieces, shows their interest or supports the brand.
“Growing a network of creative people through this business has been one of the best things about it”

	For our shoot we shot some of the Bean Baby 69 tank tops. Do you think clothing is something you want to continue to branch out to?

	I don’t have a clear journey laid out for Bean Baby as far as what i want to explore. I will always continue to experiment and make things that make me feel good, whether accessories or clothing. It’s about continuing to grow the brand in a way that feels organic, as i’m aware of pacing myself and keeping the business sustainable.

	How important is collaboration to you?

	Collaboration is so crucial to what i do. Its one of the most valuable tools for any creative person. Whether your creating something new or to refining whatever you’re working on, input from other creative minds is invaluable.
All of my favourite pieces of work have been down to the team involved.

	Finally, what does the future hold in store for Bean Baby?

	There are really no bounds! As long as i continue to root the business in what feels right to me then i’ll be happy with wherever it goes. Continuing to experiment and create interesting pieces that carry that notion of cheekiness is important to me. At the moment i’m working on lots of exciting things including some silk scarves and bonnets. I’m really excited to see what the future holds for Bean Baby!

	Photographer Kairo Kai speaks with FuzionEight about the experience of working with us alongside Maddie Sellers, and their practice.

	I loved working with you, Maddie and the rest of the team!
“Collaboration in my work means everything and it’s the main reason I do photography: when I take photos of people it’s not just about the outcome, for me it’s about the relationships I build with the person. Whether in front of or behind the camera, I love getting to know the person and creating magic together.”

	I see you shoot a lot of your work through film / analogue photography. What attracted you most to this particular way of shooting?
I started shooting at fourteen when I first picked up a digital camera. Later on, throughout the years, I noticed that my favourite photographers would often shoot on film so I decided to give it a go and haven’t looked back since. I love film photography because it gives me the chance to fully understand and study the frame. It is limiting but also limitless in its own ways. I also think it’s a much more romantic way of shooting - if you’ve been inside a darkroom you’ll know what I mean. The tactile side of photography is something I really love because I enjoy getting my hands on my work instead of just editing the photographs through a computer screen.
	<img width="798" height="1144" width_o="798" height_o="1144" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/beade7ff5f6ff5058a8494cbcb4f02b65d816f554e910f1899cc5fd1f9a4a27f/Screenshot-2021-05-10-at-11.49.58.png" data-mid="107947306" border="0" data-scale="100" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/798/i/beade7ff5f6ff5058a8494cbcb4f02b65d816f554e910f1899cc5fd1f9a4a27f/Screenshot-2021-05-10-at-11.49.58.png" />

	<img width="948" height="1184" width_o="948" height_o="1184" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/f7b96a83c10f6c789fe97d7d6de84102a773028ea8ebdc4b3a4d91fc10faacf8/Screenshot-2021-05-10-at-11.51.15.png" data-mid="107947301" border="0" data-scale="82" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/948/i/f7b96a83c10f6c789fe97d7d6de84102a773028ea8ebdc4b3a4d91fc10faacf8/Screenshot-2021-05-10-at-11.51.15.png" />
	“Spending time in a confined space helped me realise things about myself and my practice that I didn’t know. Now I like taking my time when creating photographs, I also use photography as a way of getting to know people and myself more”

	Tell me a bit about how you came to discover your love of photography, and what it has meant for you.

	I come from a very small town in Northern Italy which meant that, growing up, we didn’t really have much to do. When I was around twelve, I went to my best friend’s house one day and she let me try her digital camera. I instantly fell in love with it — since then, photography has given me a reason to look at things with more attention and care. I always carry a camera wherever I go because I’m terrified of forgetting the best moments of my life. Photography means everything for me because it’s a tool I use to communicate how I feel and how I see the world.

	I actually found you through TikTok! How do you think the insane rise of this platform has influenced creatives such as yourself?

	TikTok has been amazing at showcasing emerging talent and helping creatives connect with each other! I think at the start of the pandemic everyone thought it was a joke, but as time went on attention shifted from apps like Facebook and Instagram to TikTok. I think this really helped me find creative ways of sharing my work online and produce something every day. Because organic reach is so great on the app, even by posting a simple video you can get lots of engagement. This has helped me massively with connecting with creatives like you and others!

	Finally, what does the future hold in store for you?

	More work! More portraits! More trips around the world and connecting with musicians, make up artists, and creative directors like you. I wanna shoot Tierra Whack for a cover magazine and follow artists like A$AP Rocky, SZA and Frank Ocean (if he will ever go) on tour. I love blending music, fashion and personal stories together. I want to accomplish all of these things in less than five years from now so stay tuned!

	Evie Stothert is a London based fashion stylist. She has been featured in the likes of Teeth and Kaltblut magazine, after originally beginning her career with a BA in Fashion Communication at Nottingham Trent University.
Here she discusses her work and inspiration.

I often have bizarre and vivid dreams which i write down and draw from when building concepts. If I actively go seeking inspiration, nothing particularly strikes me, so I’ll wait until a peculiar idea or thought grabs my mind and I’ll let it really unravel from there.

	A lot of my work explores gender and the boundaries of femininity. Even if the concept doesn’t nessaserily start out that way - i find that it naturally seeps into everything i do. I always want to present the people i dress to feel powerful and beautiful, even if it is tinged with vulgarity or bad taste.&nbsp;
My aim is to contribute to the unravelling of the societal notions of beauty that have been drummed into us and make room for new voices in the industry, continue to work with up and coming designers and small businesses. I’m also currently working towards creating a creative consultancy agency that also helps equpit young creatives outside of London to forge their own paths in the creative industries.&nbsp;

	Jody Evans is a London based photographer, who graduated from Goldsmiths in 2019, specialising in fine art photography. They give us some insight into what excites them...
I
find inspiration in performance artists, sculpture artists and my own personal experiences. I love the works of Joe Spence, Louise Bourgeois and Robert Mapplethorpe... I use photography as a kind of art therapy and i find comfort in that.

	Prior to coming to London to study, i was unsure about what exactly I wanted to do. I spent so much time at uni in the photography department, experimenting and testing new ideas.For my more editorial and fashion focused work, I take a lot of inspiration from small editorial magazines and I like my work to reflect a dark, punky and gothic quality to what i do. I always try to work with womxn and queer individuals as i want to represent this community. I want to have fun with it mainly and create something that myself and the people i’m working with think is interesting and cool.

	I’d like to think that through my artwork I’m tackling difficult subjects, but expressing them in tactile and gentle ways.
In the future, I hope to be able to be doing photography full time, and have my own studio space where i can create work whenever I’d like, with no boundaries.
